Book 7. Start with Why.

Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. by Simon Sinek

This book is simultaneously a quick read and a tad too long. The concept is right there in the title. Start with Why. What is your motivation, and have you communicated it clearly? Or, to put it like Mya Angelou, People will forget what you said, and they will forget what you did. They will not forget how you made them feel.

It’s one thing to energize a group or excite them with a motivational speech or a goal. It’s completely another thing to have a team or a customer base that is already energized by your mission. If you, as the book asserts, start with why…you will attract highly motivated, like-minded co-workers. And you will have already differentiated yourself in the eyes your customers.

Perhaps because I was already on board with the concepts, but I feel like this was a good book that could have been a great essay.
